General Instructions for Hop Sample Collection
If there are no symptoms of disease, gather random sample of whole leaves using a uniform pattern through the hop yard, such as a “W” or “X” pattern.
If suspect virus symptoms are present, gather samples from affected and adjacent-to-affected bines.
- Collect five mature leaves with petioles (leaf stems) from different parts of the hop bines. Place samples in a zip top plastic bag.
- Label individual bags and document location of the bines in the hop yard with the cultivar name and other pertinent information.
