Grapevines

The Clean Plant Center Northwest holds and maintains a foundation collection of virus-tested, G1-level Grapevine accessions at Washington State University’s Irrigated Agriculture Research and Extension Center in Prosser, WA. These accessions are maintained in insect-proof screen houses to prevent reinfection and are regularly tested to ensure cleanliness. Accessions held in the foundation collection are available for sale and distribution to growers and nurseries across the United States.

Availability – Updated 10.24.2023

All available accessions have undergone a series of diagnostic assays to ensure that they are free of economically important viruses and virus-like organisms. Please click on the following link for a list of currently available Grapevine accessions.

Please note that this list contains only accessions that have reached full release status and are presently available; accessions in progress, or accessions that have been removed, are not shown.

Ordering and Distribution

The CPCNW has defined Grapevine sale/distribution periods throughout the year, depending on the type of material requested. These are:

Dormant Hardwood Cuttings: Requests taken November 1st to January 31st

Requests must be submitted by January 31st. Orders will be shipped beginning February 1st. Cuttings are made from dormant one-year-old wood. The proximal cut is cut flat below the bottom bud, and the distal cut is slanted at the internode above the top bud, and the cutting length is 16 – 18 inches with 5 buds. A CPCNW Sales Agreement must accompany all Request Forms, and Proprietary Material Distribution Agreement must accompany any requests for proprietary material.

Tissue Culture Micropropagules: Requests taken May 1st through August 31st

Unrooted Tissue Culture Shoots – small (1” to 2”) shoot tip cuttings containing approximately two nodes that have been surface sterilized and placed into tissue culture media to harden and callus before shipment. These will need to be either transferred to rooting media or sub-cultured for further propagation.

A CPCNW Sales Agreement must accompany all Request Forms, and Proprietary Material Distribution Agreement must accompany any requests for proprietary material.

Rooted Tissue Culture Plantlets – larger (2” to 3″) proliferated shoot tip cuttings at least two nodes that been grown in tissue culture for a period sufficient to produce (~1” long”) roots. These will require careful transplanting and hardening in greenhouse or similar protected environment before being ready to place outdoors.

A CPCNW Sales Agreement must accompany all Request Forms, and Proprietary Material Distribution Agreement must accompany any requests for proprietary material.

Green Cuttings (Shoots): Requests taken from March 1st through August 31st

Unrooted green cuttings are offered for sale and distribution throughout the summer and early fall, weather permitting. Shoots are approximately 12-18 inches long, with an average of 5 nodes per cutting. A CPCNW Sales Agreement must accompany all Request Forms, and Proprietary Material Distribution Agreement must accompany any requests for proprietary material.

4” Potted Plant: Requests are taken until June 30th

Requests must be submitted by June 30th. Orders will be fulfilled during the growing season (April – September). If large quantity orders are desired, orders should be placed as far in advance as possible. Minimum quantity orders for potted plants will be determined at the discretion of the CPCNW staff. CPCNW staff will maintain communication throughout the growing season to identify mutually agreeable shipping or order pick up windows based on plant maturity. A CPCNW Sales Agreement must accompany all Request Forms, and Proprietary Material Distribution Agreement must accompany any requests for proprietary material.
